Sources, archives and credits

A first thanks goes, dutifully, to the Filippo Turati Foundation for Historical Studies in Florence, which holds in its extensive archives the Matteotti Papers donated to the Institute by the family and has made available a substantial number of images and documents. Special mention goes to the Polesine institutions, starting with the House Museum of Fratta Polesine, not forgetting the Accademia dei Concordi of Rovigo, the Minelliana Cultural Association and the Municipality of Fratta Polesine.

We report with pleasure the valuable support offered by the Alma Mater – University of Bologna, which has made available extensive documentation of Giacomo Matteotti’s university years.

Among the foundations that have opened their archives and made available interesting and rare matteottiani documents a particularly grateful mention goes to the Pietro Nenni Foundation, the Giuseppe Emanuele and Vera Modigliani Foundation – ESSMOI, the Eredi Titta Ruffo Bernardini and the Origoni Steiner Archives.

The cooperation of the archives of public preservation facilities, particularly the State Archives and the Central State Archives, proved particularly valuable, thanks in part to the effective coordination carried out by the General Directorate of Archives of the MiC. It should be noted, in this regard, that the State Archives of Chieti and Rome hold the papers of the Matteotti trials, while the State Archives of Rovigo has particularly important documentation related to the Matteotti family and its relations with Polesine. As for the Central State Archives, documents related to the investigations conducted into the Matteotti murder proved to be of particular interest, in addition to data on the numerous personnel files held in the political records and other funds.

Matteottian documents of wide interest are also held at the Senate Historical Archives, which also holds the records of the De Bono trial, which we thank along with the Historical Archives of the Chamber of Deputies for their valuable support.

Among the many other institutions that have contributed to enriching the museum’s halls, we recall and thank: the Circolo Rosselli Foundation of Florence, the Piero Gobetti Study Center of Turin, the Anna Kuliscioff Foundation of Milan, the Bruno Buozzi Foundation of Rome, the AAMOD – Audiovisual Archive of the Workers’ and Democratic Movement of Rome, the Gino Bianco Library of the Alfred Lewin Foundation of Forlì, and the Giuseppe Di Vagno Foundation of Conversano.

The exhibition section dedicated to “Young People and Giacomo” hosts a selection – destined to be enriched over time and to welcome new contributions from young people – of entries by secondary school students who have participated in the Matteotti National Competition for Schools over the years. To all the students and their teachers goes our feeling of appreciation and gratitude, which extends to the Direzione Generale per lo Studente, l’inclusione, l’orientamento e il contrasto alla dispersione scolastica of the Ministry of Education and Merit, which has been promoting the Competition together with the Matteotti and Turati Foundations for years.

Additional mention goes to the National Committee for the Celebration of the Centenary of the Death of Giacomo Matteotti and the National Edition of the Matteotti Trials. Established by decree for the centennial celebrations, the two institutions-established at the instance of the Matteotti Foundation – have actively worked on the occasion by promoting numerous and qualified cultural initiatives of which there is ample evidence in the Virtual Museum. Both entities have been recognized by the Direzione Generale ERIC of the Ministry of Culture, to whom our grateful appreciation goes.

Finally, it should be noted that the Matteotti Virtual Museum implements a project co-funded by the Struttura di Miissione per gli anniversari nazionali and is supported by the Prime Minister’s Office, as provided for in Law no. 92/2023 (Celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the death of Giacomo Matteotti).

Truly many people have thus collaborated on the MVM project, and to all of them goes our gratitude and that of the Museum’s visitors. For each cultural institution you will find below the logo, accompanied by a brief descriptive nod and a link referring to the relevant website.
